Statement by Carme BASSA

I use the traditional encaustic technique, which mixes beeswax with resins and different pigments. I'm deeply moved by the richness of earth colors and how they combine with the textures of painting and the freshness of Mediterranean blue. Although my work is abstract, I include figurative elements which refer to the simple images of everyday life, as well as to my spiritual and emotional concerns. Despite expressive tensions, I want my painting to bring about harmony and accord in our stressful world.

Encaustic painting.

"Technique of painting with pigments mixed with hot wax. Its name derives from a Greek word meaning 'burnt in' and it was one of the principal techniques of the ancient world. " (Oxford Art Dictionary)
